NORTH WEST REGION CHALLENGE - AMSTERDAM 2009
28 JULY 2009
400 members from across the North West Region recently enjoyed an afternoon together in Amsterdam.
All the Senior Section members met together at the Rijks Museum in the Centre of the city, the adults met at the Dam Square. Then we were set a timed challenge which involved visiting 9 sites across the city, finding the answers to local questions, like ‘How many animals are represented on this statue?’; ‘Name ten flowers you can buy at the Flower Market’. The rights answers gained a stamp for your passport and the team that finished all the challenges in the quickest time received a fancy trophy showing a pair of clogs!
The idea was to encourage and support leaders to give girls the chance to travel abroad as a group. A Region Team, led by Nicky Mullin our Region International Adviser, were in Amsterdam for several days, meeting groups and helping them navigate around the city and find their accommodation.

Some groups stayed in other areas of the Netherlands and came into the city for the Challenge, other stayed in hostels and hotels across the city.
The Finale was a gathering in Ooster Park , around the bandstand. Everyone decorated a souvenir necker and then exchanged it with someone else from another area of the North West.
The weather was excellent and many thanks go to all those leaders and the International Team who made it possible.
