GIRL GUIDES RAISE OVER £2,000 FOR CHARITY
28 SEPT 2009
Saturday 26th September saw a James Bond theme ball raise over £2000 for Girlguiding UK and Plan UK, organised by Jodrell Senior Section Guides.
Over 130 guests attended the event which was a huge success, and part of the many celebrations that are being held in anticipation of one hundred years of guiding next year. Entertainment included a live band, La Funkette, a raffle and a charity auction with prizes including a day’s gliding, James Bond actors’ autographs and a light aircraft flight.

Sue Taylor, County Commissioner said: “The senior section is an important part of guiding and gives older girls the opportunity to learn new skills that will help them going forwarding their careers. The charity ball is an excellent example of developing organisational and teamwork skills.”
The ball was organised to raise money for Plan UK which is one of the largest child-centred community development organisations in the world, helping children and their families in 49 of the poorest countries to break the cycle of poverty.
Currently already working alongside Girlguiding, Plan UK has set up a campaign called ‘because I am a girl’, which introduces the ‘take a photo – make a difference’ project. It is designed to get girls thinking about the disadvantages other girls face around the world, such as often missing out on going to school and on proper nutrition. The exhibition of photos will also be displayed at the ball so the general public can view the artwork.
