INTERNATIONAL AWARENESS ADVISER
08 FEB 2010
Girlguiding North West England is inviting expressions of interest from adult leaders who would like to become our International Awareness Adviser.
This post is for three years and you will continue the work of a highly successful team that has supported many international visits and who organized the amazing Region Amsterdam Challenge. If successful, you will join the Region Guiding Development Team and work together with other advisers.
Your overall aim will be to support County International Advisers:
1) To help as many members as possible to have an international Guiding experience (preferably residential) at home or abroad.
2) To help young members learn about global issues and how they can act locally.
3) To raise awareness of the international aspect of Guiding and the work of WAGGGS.
As well as organising Region international opportunities for young adults and girl members.
In order to fulfil your role you will need to ‘think’ internationally. You should encourage any aspect of an event, project or a decision that will enhance the international dimension. This does not mean just international Guiding, but any information that could lead to a wider view. Yours is a role in which you are both diplomat and adviser. Your position within the region allows you to forge links between people, and to widen the international network.
This will also benefit you, as the wider your network, the more support you will have. You will also draw on your knowledge and experience to advise on international matters within the whole programme.
You will organise selection panels and oversee participants on international trips and provide briefing and information for leaders selected at these events. This will include advice on the availability of grants and on fundraising. You will also be involved in the de-briefing of individuals after these events.
It will also be part of your role to support County Advisers to provide training for leaders who wish to take their girls abroad. (GAINING training) as well as encouraging counties to share their ideas for helping young members learn about global issues.
If you are interested in this role, please write to me, Sue Lomas, North West England Chief Commissioner explaining why you are interested in the role and what experience you feel you could bring to the job. This should not take more than one side of A4.
Email your expression of interest to:
suelomas@girlguidingnwe.org.uk by 8th March 2010.
If we are interested in talking through your letter, we will invite you to Region Headquarters to meet with a small group to ask you more about your ideas.
Thanks for showing interest in this post.
Sue Lomas
Region Chief Commissioner
