YOUNG WOMEN FROM THE NORTH WEST GAIN TOP GUIDING ACCOLADE FROM HRH THE COUNTESS OF WESSEX
27 NOV 2009
Young women from across the North West have received their Queen's Guide Award. The award was presented by HRH the Countess of Wessex – the Girlguiding UK President - at a special ceremony held at St James’ Palace in London on Tuesday (24 November). Girlguiding UK’s Chief Guide Liz Burnley was also on hand at the event along with 200 other invited guests.

Around 70 young women from across the UK joined the North West women in receiving their Queen’s Guide. The award sees participants take the lead in a number of exciting areas including developing a personal skill, working within pioneering community action projects, and overseeing ambitious outdoor pursuits.

The Queen’s Guide Award is the most prestigious guiding award open to members between the ages of 16 and 25.
North West Chief Commissioner Sue Lomas said, "This is a great achievement and we are very proud of them. This award gives our young women the opportunity to develop their confidence in a supportive environment. The girls have had a great time whilst completing the award and really enjoy the challenge."
Liz Burnley added: “Over the years the Queen’s Guide Award has given many young women an amazing sense of empowerment and confidence within a girl-only-space, particularly at a time when they are making serious life choices – such as career direction – which ultimately shape their future. The presentation itself is a very special event, and something recipients will remember forever.”
