Almost 9000 Members descend on Blackpool for ‘A Grand Day Out’

On Saturday 8th October over 8,500 Girlguiding North West England members joined together at Pleasure Beach, Blackpool to celebrate the Region’s 40th ‘Ruby’ anniversary.

Dubbed ‘A Grand Day Out’, the girls and Leaders were in for a treat with a fun filled day of rides, dancing and shows at the largest ever event to be hosted by Girlguiding North West England.

The day began with thousands of excited girls descending on the Pleasure Beach with their unlimited ride wristbands.  Those who were brave enough ran to The Big One whilst the younger girls flocked to Nickelodeon Land for fun with SpongeBob and friends.

Throughout the day, everyone got the chance to sit down and relax at the incredible Ice Show, specially choreographed to celebrate ‘A Grand Day Out’ – what a treat!

After the excitement on the ice, each group was lead through to the Dance Zone  where professional dancers were waiting to get them warmed up and ready to learn the Cha Cha Slide for the World Record Attempt later in the afternoon.

To commemorate the celebration, everyone received an ‘A Grand Day Out’ goody bag, including a stick of ruby celebration rock and event badge featuring none other than A Grand Day Out supremo’s Wallace and Gromit!

Whilst preparing to break the world record for the largest ever Cha Cha Slide, Chief Commissioner Sue Lomas took to the stage to address the members.  After thanking everyone, a huge count down played across the whole park and the Cha Cha Slide began.  The ground was shaking with so many Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Senior Section and adult members dancing together to break the record!

What a fantastic way to celebrate!
