About Me
I am employed on a 20 hour, term time contract with Girlguiding North West England after completing a 3 year project working as the Senior Development Worker with Project Switch at Girlguiding UK. I am also a Brownie assistant guider at Trawden in Lancashire East County alongside being a member of the County team as Public Relations and Recruitment Advisor. I have recently become an occasional helper for the Earby Sea Scouts group. I live way out on the hills above Foulridge, Nr Colne on a farm with my family – Jonathan my husband, Annie 13 who is a lone guide and Reuben 7 who is a Beaver and not forgetting our two ponies Sweetie and Sham.
I am very keen on promoting volunteering opportunities and have held various roles in the past – one of the most memorable being a member of “Pendle for Romania” and visiting the country on one of their aid missions.
My Role
I am here to advise and assist with growing guiding in the North West of England Region. My last 3 years working as part of the Chq Guiding Development team has proved rewarding and valuable and the lessons learned are now able to be taken forward to grow our membership and look at ways of offering guiding in a more flexible manner. I am also here to promote funding opportunities and encourage leaders to seek and apply for funding for their units to enable the guiding experience to continue to be achieved during difficult financial times.
Louise is in post to help with a variety of advisory and support methods to enable your team to discover new methods of growing guiding and therefore be able to implement them amongst the team. Her role is advisory and not that of a Development Worker so is not available to actually run unit sessions or events with the exception of training.
Examples of help you may ask for may be:
- Advice for your team on planning and holding a taster event.
- Start up grant help for new units.
- Grant Net support for sourcing funding opportunities.
- Partnership work.
- Growing Guiding in communities not already engaged.
- Training sessions on flexible guiding and volunteer recruitment and retention.
- Relevant contacts at Chq for your specific needs.
- Coming in 2010 – SAM Volunteer Management.
This list is by no means exhaustive so if you feel you are in need of assistance then complete the form and Louise will discuss this with you personally.
How to request help
There is a short application form to complete to request assistance from myself to allow us to log what the need is within our Region. You can request this from your County Commissioner or Girlguiding North West England’s Region Office. Tel: 01772 823331 or
email: northwesthq@girlguiding.org.uk
