Kathryn Qattan

Deputy Chief Commissioner

The deputy chief commissioner is responsible for supporting the chief commissioner in her role as the lead volunteer for the organisation.

Kathryn’s guiding journey goes back 25 years and over the pond to Texas, USA, where she became a leader at her daughters’ unit – so she’s had plenty of experience of the many exciting opportunities Girlguiding has to offer.

She brought her enthusiasm for the Girl Scouts back to the UK, and has since been a Ranger leader, district commissioner, division commissioner, guiding development lead, and chair of finance for both her county and region.

In speaking of her experience, Kathryn says: “There is such enjoyment and commitment to Girlguiding in the region – and we are always ready to try something new and offer the best experience we can for the girls. As in any role, the challenge is often bringing others along on the journey – but when we succeed in doing so, it’s incredibly rewarding”

She feels extremely privileged to be in this role alongside Julie and Emma, and is most looking forward to helping to take the region forward – building on the legacy we have and developing guiding to give as many girls and young women as possible the opportunity to experience and enjoy what we can offer.
