Melissa Vaughan

Region International Adviser

The region international adviser supports members to take advantage of the international opportunities available to them, such as region trips and GOLD (Guiding Overseas Linked with Development). They provide training and support for leaders to take girls abroad with confidence. They facilitate events and provide resources to encourage members to look at the international aspect of guiding as part of their programme.

Melissa started her guiding journey when she was at university. She was working in a children's play centre in Manchester and a group of 100 Brownies descended upon the centre.  Their leader asked if she was interested in volunteering and as they say, the rest is history.  She's been a Girlguiding member for over 11 years, and has been a leader for different units and sections across North West England.  She is currently leading a Ranger unit in Merseyside.

Her love of travelling started at the age of 16, and since then she's visited 15 different countries, and lived in one!  She was a leader for the International Community Experience trip to Finland in 2019 and was also lead for the Merseyside European Jamboree patrol that unfortunately never got to go ahead.

Melissa hopes to not only support and inspire others to undertake their own international journeys but do a few more herself!  She says "As the world starts slowly opening up I'm incredibly excited to support members and leaders on their next (or first!) international adventures with Girlguiding North West England!"
