SUMMARY:Period Proud Peers - Leader Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Become period proud with Plan International UK! \nWe’re looking for Guide and Ranger leaders who can support their young leaders and Rangers to become Period Proud Peers. These young leaders and Rangers will then deliver fun period related activities in their units and help to make their unit a period proud environment! \nPeriod Proud Peers \nPeriods are a normal part of life\, but there is still so much silence and stigma around them. A lot of girls and young people don’t receive the support or information they need to feel confident managing their periods or talking about them openly. \nGirlguiding have teamed up with Plan International UK to offer their Period Proud Peers programme to Guide and Ranger units in North West England. \nWhat is the Period Proud Peers programme? \nThe Period Proud Peers programme aims to help young people learn more about periods and have open and honest conversations about them. \nIt does this by recruiting young people to become Period Proud Peers\, who lead fun period-related activities with their friends. In Girlguiding\, this would be others in their units. \nWho can be a Period Proud Peer? \nA Period Proud Peer is someone aged 13-19 who is supported to plan and run the period related activities for others in their unit. This could be a young leader in a Guide unit\, or 1 or 2 Rangers who want to run the activities for the other Rangers in their unit. If you don’t have young leaders in your Guide unit\, then older Guides (aged 13+) could also become Period Peers and run the activities instead. \nThere is a Period Peers handbook which they will be given with all the information needed to run the activities. \nDo we have to do anything after completing the activities? \nAt the end of the Period Peer’s session\, you’ll need to support the members of your unit to complete a short anonymous survey from Plan International UK about their experience. This can be completed either individually online by scanning the QR code in the letter with the handbook\, or as a group\, by completing a paper form and then imputing the data into an online form. This data will be shared with Plan International UK\, to help them evaluate the success of the programme. \nOnce the Period Peer has run the activities in your unit\, and you’ve completed the feedback survey\, you’ll receive an exclusive Period Proud Peers badge for everyone who took part! \nInterested in finding out more? \nRegister here for our online leader workshop on Tuesday 31 March\, 7:30pm. \nCan’t make that date – no problem\, we are planning on running more workshops over the next year. Email 4Peereducation@girlguiding.org.uk to be added to a list for the next workshop.
