Super Science with Emma for British Science Week!

Welcome to this Super Science Session with Emma!

You might know that our Assistant Chief Commissioner, Emma, is in her final year at University. Emma studies Biomedical Sciences at The University of Manchester and as part of very important project she’s chosen to create a fun and interactive science video. It’s aimed at Brownies in particular, but any young or adult members can watch along, have fun experimenting, and learn some Science too.

If you want to join in with the experimenting part of the video, you will need:

  • 2 toilet / kitchen roll tubes
  • Bowl
  • Spoon
  • 2 parts plain flour
  • 1 part salt
  • 1 part water

Emma has also made a worksheet, including an editable results table, one you can open and type in your results on your computer, or a print-friendly one to print out and fill in with a pen or pencil.

For her project, Emma needs you to answer some questions which will pop up throughout the video. It’s not a test, so don’t worry if you don’t know all the answers! These questions are just so Emma has something to analyse in the next part of her project. You’ll also be asked for your name when you first press play – you could put your initials or unit name if you’d prefer not to give your name.  This information won't be used to identify you and the answers you give will only be used for Emma's university project.

Last but not least, it'll be best if you watch on a laptop or a tablet, rather than a phone!

If you have any questions for Emma either about the science, or her project in general, you can contact her at emma.dixon-9@student.manchester.ac.uk
