We’re pleased to announce that Amanda Medler, Chief Guide, has appointed Kathryn Qattan from Lancashire East as Deputy Region Chief Commissioner. Kathryn currently enjoys being a Rainbow Leader, chairs the Region’s Finance and Property Committee and is a member of the Safeguarding and Concerns team.
From 24 March 2019, she will join Julie Walton, newly appointed Region Chief Commissioner, and together they will spend the next five years shaping the future of Girlguiding North West England.
They are both currently working alongside Mel Price, current Region Chief Commissioner, and Bekky Ashmore, Deputy Chief Commissioner before taking over next month.
Kathryn shares: “I am most looking forward to helping to take the region forward – building on the legacy we have and developing Guiding to give as many girls and young women as possible the opportunity to experience and enjoy what we can offer.”
Kathryn’s guiding journey goes back 25 years and over the pond to Texas, USA, where she became a leader at her daughters’ unit – so she’s had plenty of experience of the many exciting opportunities Girlguiding has to offer.
She brought her enthusiasm for the Girl Scouts back to the UK, and has since been a Ranger Leader, District Commissioner, Division Commissioner, Guiding Development Lead, and Chair of Finance for both her County and Region.
In speaking of her experience, Kathryn says: “There is such enjoyment and commitment to Girlguiding in the Region – and we are always ready to try something new and offer the best experience we can for the girls. As in any role, the challenge is often bringing others along on the journey – but when we succeed in doing so, it’s incredibly rewarding”
We wish her well as she embarks her new role at Girlguiding NWE.
