Girl Power: How getting active and social action can help you unlock your potential - a message from Kristen Stephenson, Head of Volunteering at Sport England

At Sport England, we believe passionately in the power of social action and volunteering and we’re on a mission to create more opportunities for girls like you to get active. That’s why I’m really excited about Motivate!

When we combine sport and social action with the creativity, ideas and potential of girls like you; that’s when the magic can really happen! Our research shows that through social action you can learn new skills, build your confidence, have fun and have a positive impact on your community or a cause that you care about.

From volunteering to fundraising and campaigning, you can make a difference! You may also choose to step up and use your passion to inspire and empower other girls in your unit to take part as a Motivate Leader.

We also know that getting more active is good for but let’s get real, for some of us the usual sport and activities don’t motivate us to take part. We’re not all runners and we might not fancy the gym, but this isn’t what Motivate is about. Motivate is about finding a sport or activity that’s right for you, even developing your own idea that you’re excited to try out. Getting active can be anything you want it to be, as shown by our fab This Girl Can women in the new Fit Got Real campaign.

By finding an activity that’s right for you you’ll be able to have fun and enjoy moving more with your friends as well as experiencing the benefits to your health and wellbeing that getting active can bring. I’m excited to see the ideas you come up with!
