Help us launch our TikTok

We’re launching a brand new Girlguiding North West England TikTok account, and we’d love our members to get involved in creating content. Maybe you want to showcase what you’ve been up to in your unit meeting, hop on a trend in your uniform, document an exciting trip, or something completely different? It’s up to you!

What to consider before making a TikTok video for us

We’re really excited that you’d like to help us launch our social media presence on TikTok, but there are a few things you need to consider before making any videos:

  • Decide what you want to make your TikTok about. Do you want to showcase what you’ve been up to in your unit meeting, hop on a trend in your uniform, document an exciting trip, or something completely different? It’s up to you!
  • Check that you have appropriate photo/video permissions for anyone who will appear in the TikTok. There are still ways to join in if you don’t have appropriate permissions, you may just have to get creative about what you film.
  • You might want to involve young members in the filming and/or editing of the video, but be careful not to promote TikTok to members who are below the minimum age for the platform. You could link filming your TikTok videos into a discussion about online safety.

 How to film your TikTok

If you’ve created TikToks before, you might have filmed them in the app, but for our region page, please film your clips using your device’s own camera app. Here are some key points to remember:

  • Record your video(s) on a smartphone or tablet, in portrait orientation. Your TikTok could be filmed as one continuous video, or lots of shorter clips edited together.
  • Check that everything you want to capture is in frame, not too close and not too far away.
  • Make sure that there isn’t anyone or anything in the background of the video that shouldn’t be there, for example, a member without appropriate permissions, or something that might cause offence.
  • TikToks can use either the video’s original audio, or overlayed music/sounds. If you’re planning to use the original audio, check that the sound is clear, and that nothing else can be heard in the background.

 How to edit you TikTok

If you’ve created TikToks before, you might have edited them in the app, but, for this, we’d prefer you to use an external video editing app – we recommend InShot or CapCut. This means that you can send us your edited videos, without TikTok’s watermark.

  • Start a new video project in the app, and upload the clip(s) you want to create a TikTok with.
  • Click on the video to trim the start and end point, if needed.
  • If you are editing multiple clips together, use the ‘transitions’ feature to change the way one clip moves onto another.
  • Add any effects, stickers and text to your TikTok. Double check for spelling mistakes, and make sure the text is legible. You can change the colour, font, and position on the video if needed.
  • Once you’ve finished editing your TikTok, download it from InShot or CapCut in the highest resolution possible.

Sending us your TikTok

If you’re happy with your edited video and want it to be featured on Girlguiding North West England’s TikTok account, you’ll need to follow these steps to send it to us:

  • Email your TikTok to northwesthq@girlguidingnwe.org.uk *, with the subject line ‘TikTok submission’
  • In your email, confirm that you have collected appropriate photo/video permissions for everyone who appears in the TikTok, and let us know your name, your unit name, and your county.
  • Also confirm whether your TikTok will use its original audio, or overlayed music/sound. If you want it to be uploaded with overlayed music/trending sound, please indicate what you would like this to be.
  • If your video is too large to send via email, please send them via We Transfer (https://wetransfer.com/). Select ‘I just want to send files’ and then complete the box on the left-hand side of the page; uploading your file(s) from your device, adding northwesthq@girlguidingnwe.org.uk into the ‘Email to’ field and adding ‘TikTok submission’ into the ‘Title’ field. In the ‘Message’ field, please confirm that you have obtained appropriate photo/video permissions, and also include your name, your unit name, and your county.

If you have any questions, or if you need support with any of the above, please do get in touch! We're really excited to see your videos and to share them on our brand-new TikTok channel! Please note however that we may not be able to share all of the videos we receive.
