From outdoor survival skills, to milking Matilda the life sized cow; this event had it all!
The girls took a trip down memory lane by undertaking activities that past Senior Section members and Rangers would have participated in as part of their programme.
They explored the future of The Senior Section, how the programme has developed since its inception and the different opportunities available to them now. Why not follow our Express! Youth Forum to keep up-to-date with all the latest Senior Section opportunities.
Kate Pickup, a member of Burnage District Senior Section said “I really enjoyed Rangers Rewind; it was interesting to look back on the past, but I think there is much more to do in Girlguiding now, there is so much variety.”
Julie Bell, Region Chief Commissioner said “I was really excited to see girls and young women enjoying our heritage event with their Leaders in a really active day. It was great to see how many activities they could participate in.”
Suzie Reynolds, Girlguiding North West England’s President said “As always, it was lovely to meet everyone and have a chance to chat to the girls (not forgetting dear Matilda!), and see all the brilliant things they were getting up to. I must say, between milking a cow, making butter and cooking in hay boxes, they’re going to be very well equipped for survival! It was a very happy day and thank you again for inviting me to be part of it.”
Cathy Martin, a Guide Leader from Oldham said “What a delightful way to celebrate the centenary, having a go ourselves at the activities the Rangers did in the 1930’s, 1940’s and 1950’s."
The range of activities was marvellous, and we would like to pass on our thanks to the ladies who had spent a great deal of time preparing. I attended with my daughter and we had a lovely relaxing day, we both learnt new skills (I just about remembered how to make a gadget) and there was plenty of time to take part in all of the activities.
This was our first trip to the Regional Headquarters, and we look forward to being able to attend activity days in the future, when we will bring others from our unit.”
Everyone had a great time. Thank you to our Archivist volunteers and everyone who helped make Rangers Rewind a great success.
