Julie has led the North West England team for four and a half years and has been involved in guiding for most of her life starting as a Brownie at seven years old. Julie’s also a Guide and Ranger leader and shares in the excitement of the new programme as a way to showcase best practice locally and improve the quality of guiding on offer in units. She’s also the Chief Commissioner representative on Girlguiding’s Nominations and Governance committee.
Julie was recently shortlisted as “Person with Purpose” at the Northern Power Women awards and as “Volunteer Manager of the Year” in the North West Charity awards. Professionally Julie is Head of Service for Libraries, Museums, Culture and Registration services for Lancashire County Council, leading a team of over 400 staff. She is involved at board level with Active Lancashire, the National Youth Libraries board and locally with Garstang and District children’s festival committee.
Julie will work closely with lead volunteers in specific areas (digital transformation, activity centres, membership communications, outdoors, quality, safeguarding, and awards). Along with the Chief Guide and the Assistant Chief Guide, they will, as a team, provide operational leadership for all volunteers.
As Julie is currently the Chief Commissioner for North West England, Mel Price, who is one of her Assistants, will become the Region Chief Commissioner and will continue to work with Bekky Ashmore our other Assistant Region Chief to manage the region through to the end of their term of office, which is in March 2019. Recruitment for a new Chief Commissioner for the region will begin over the Summer and Mel and Bekky will then work through a handover period with the new Region Chief Commissioner.
