Girlguiding North West England was highly commended at the annual North West Charity Awards – an annual ceremony to honour, recognise and celebrate outstanding professionals and best practice within charities.
Twelve representatives from the girls’ charity attended the celebration on Friday 27 September 2019. The group of volunteers was made up of the region chief commissioner, executive manager and trainer team, along with members of the senior leadership team.
Helen Salvini, County Commissioner, from Manchester, received the Highly Commended award in the Trustee of the Year category, for the outstanding contribution she has made to the charity. Helen runs a Ranger unit and supports a campsite in Disley while offering bags of support to the region. Over the past year, she has helped to put on exciting events and activities for girls while supporting the region with strategy development.
Helen said: "I was surprised and delighted when I originally found out I had been nominated for this award and to be highly commended at the awards evening was the icing on the cake.
“Being a trustee for Girlguiding North West England has given me lots of opportunities for which I am very grateful. To be a decision-maker for a charity working with over 60,000 young members and leaders is both challenging and enjoyable. It is enormously rewarding because it gives me the chance to shape our future as well as providing opportunities for all our members to develop, gain new skills and have fun.
“I am part of some amazing teams and have met and worked with many inspiring leaders who continue to challenge and develop me. Whilst all of this is very important to me I draw much of my energy and enthusiasm from spending time with young members, in particular, my Ranger unit who never cease to amaze me ground me, make me laugh, remind me what is most important and motivate me."
Girlguiding North West England was also Highly Commended in the North West Charity of the Year Award, for the positive impact the organisation has on both young people and volunteers – a place for fun, friendship, and new experiences.
Julie Walton, Region Chief Commissioner, shared: “To be Highly Commended in the North West Charity of the Year category is outstanding and a very much deserved recognition for the incredible work all of our volunteers do every day. For it to be recognised, more publicly, is a fantastic achievement. It is a celebration of all our volunteers, and it drives us to provide more life-changing opportunities for more girls.”
Girlguiding North West England is keen to continue to provide more life-changing opportunities for more girls. The charity looks forward to next year’s North West Charity Awards – yet another celebration of the incredible charities in the North West.
