World Scout Jamboree - applications now open

Held every four years, the World Scout Jamboree is an amazing international experience where Scouts and Guides from the whole globe come together to have fun and make friends. The next WSJ is in SaeManGeum, South Korea in the summer of 2023.

To apply for selection for this event, you need to have been born between 22 July 2005 and 31 July 2009 to apply. If you are older, you can look at being a part of WSJ through the International Service Team (IST)

To find out more about the WSJ and the selection process, join our Region International Adviser Mel, and NWE WSJ leader Ellie Ruding at this virtual event on 12 November.  To register your interest and be sent the zoom link, click here.

The event involves a 12-day camp and then some pre/post experiences in South Korea (more information to come once these are announced). It is likely you would be away from home for around three weeks.

Girlguiding North West England will have a patrol of young people who will join three other scouting patrols to create Unit 48. Unit 48 will live and travel together as they take part in this amazing opportunity. Everyone who represents Girlguiding and Scouting in the UK will be part of the UK Contingent.

The Jamboree is just one of many amazing international opportunities open to you in Girlguiding. To help you decide if this is the right one for you, you should consider what life might be like on a Jamboree. You would be away for around three weeks and in that time would spend your time with a group of 36 young people and four leaders. You will be involved in the daily routine of camp, including shopping, cooking, washing up and other camp duties. You may be travelling for a long time on the journey days, eating food that you may be unaccustomed to and would need to be able to look after yourself and your possessions. You need to be able to tell when you need to slow down and take a rest, or when to get going and help others. You will have the opportunity to try new activities and meet lots of new people, surrounded by a group of incredibility supportive people!

We’re supporting the UK contingent’s vision to be the most inclusive UK contingent to attend a World Scout Jamboree. There should be no unnecessary barriers to anyone becoming part of this opportunity. If you need help completing your application or assistance to take part in the selection process, please contact us to discuss your needs.

We are looking for young people who can:

  • Work well as a team
  • Think big on key local and global issues
  • Dream wild on how to tackle these issues
  • Act together as a unit and worldwide movement
  • Give back to local Girlguiding

You will need to be available for the selection weekend, a one-night outdoor camping event held in partnership with the Scouts, from 27 -28 November 2021. You will need to join us for this weekend, but don’t worry it will be a fun weekend and not at all scary - please don’t be put off applying because we use the word selection.

The cost of the Jamboree is yet to be announced but we expect it to be a “not more than” initial figure (due to the uncertainty, particularly over flight costs). For previous Jamborees the figure has been approx. £3,500 and the girls are expected, and will be supported, to fundraise and apply for grants to help toward this cost.

There are nine places available for Girlguiding members from the North West. For more information, and to apply, download the application form. Your application form and link to your video (if applicable) must be emailed to before midnight on Thursday 18th November.

If you have any questions, please contact
