Region Volunteer Vacancy: Council Member

We're looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to be part of the Girlguiding Council.

Are you a caring, challenging, inspiring young person who wants to promote change within Girlguiding? Why not become a member of our council.

We’re looking for members aged 14-25 to join the Girlguiding Council – a space for different kinds of members to come together and help shape our future. This volunteer role gives great opportunities to present your views nationally and to consult other members about how we can improve.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make incredible changes, develop new skills, and learn from each other. You could see yourself expressing your individual and valuable views, consulting locally to gather views within the region, and discussing top-level issues, like voting for the new Chief Guide at an exciting AGM– a big decision!

To be successful, you need to show an up-to-date understanding of how relevant Girlguiding is to today’s girls and young women. You will need to be able to research opinions as well as lead discussions with others; you will have bags of enthusiasm for advising the future of Girlguiding.

This role comes with plenty of responsibility but by your three-year term, you’ll come away having influenced and inspired what we can offer to our young members and volunteers.

How to apply

Members wishing to be considered for a place as an elected member of Council are asked to apply to their County/Region directly. After the deadline, all applications will be assessed by a country/region panel including the Chief Commissioner and at least two other Country/Region level volunteers. This panel will make the decision on who is to be offered a role as a Council member.

Please see the application pack for more detail.

If you want to be considered for the role, please must complete an application form (attached to pack), which must be supported by two nomination forms. Nominations are to be completed by two commissioners or members who hold appointments within your country/region. If you are under 18, you may ask your unit leader to nominate you, and she can advise you on who else to approach.

Application deadline – 12.00 pm on Wednesday 10 April.
