Our Social Action Project
Seasons of Sustainability
Seasons of Sustainability is a fun, flexible, four‑year social action project focused on taking action for our environment – which we know is an important issue for our young members. It was launched in late 2025 and will run until 2029.
🌱 What the programme is
Delivered through bitesize activity sheets, this project is a challenge badge made up of themed units that are released with each season of the year (for example, ‘Fast Fashion’ in winter 2025). It is designed to help girls explore sustainability and climate action in manageable, engaging ways.
Girls complete one activity sheet per season, earning the main badge and their first leaf initially: then earning a new leaf to add to their badge with each subsequent seasonal activity.

- It’s flexible, so unit leaders can slot activities easily into unit planning
- It’s engaging, with topics chosen because they matter to young members
- It uses activities created with expert partners, ensuring they’re meaningful but still simple to deliver
🍃 Why it’s so flexible
- Complete your badge in any order – there’s no set sequence, so units can dip in and out as suits their programme.
- It works across all sections – Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers can all take part, meaning girls can build their badge throughout their whole Girlguiding journey.
- Activities fit into one meeting – each petal/leaf is designed so it can be earned in a single session.
- Catch‑up friendly – because the sheets are simple and self‑contained, young people can complete missed activities at home without difficulty.
- Runs alongside other badges – leaders don’t need to choose between this and the main programme; it slots in easily

Previous Social Action Projects
Period products for
homeless women
As homeless women* have limited or no access to period products, they are often forced to go without. Through this initiative, we can donate period products to help those most in need.
*We recognise that not all people who have periods identify as women, and not all women have periods.
Bras for Against
Breast Cancer
This project takes unwanted or unloved bras to raise vital funds for pioneering breast cancer research, as well as giving them a new lease of life in developing countries, where bras remain too expensive to produce locally. This venture keeps many families in developing countries out of poverty, whilst also employing people in the UK.
