Spring Safari – Nature Discovery Day February 26, 2025

This is an RSPB event, and Girlguiding North West England staff & volunteers will not be present.

Rainbows, Brownies and Guides are invited to celebrate the arrival of spring with a day of fun outdoor activities at Burton Mere!

Girls will explore this amazing wetland habitat and learn about the ways that it is used by different plants, birds, animals and humans. They will discover new species that may not visit their local green spaces, such as majestic water birds visible from the bird hide.

They will develop skills such as identifying birds, pond dipping and creating natural art.

They’ll use their senses to connect with nature and feel good about the changing season, taking away knowledge and a connection to nature for their everyday lives.

Please meet with your unit at Bishop Wilson C of E Primary School, Puddington La, Puddington Ln, Burton, Neston CH64 5SE.

Parking is available at the Primary School.

From Bishop Wilson Primary School, you can walk to Burton Mere Nature Reserve in around 10 minutes. We will have volunteers to assist you with the route and event area on the day.

RSPB also have some funding available to be able to assist members to attend the event. If this is something you would be interested in, please contact katie.thompson@rspb.org.uk

Arrivals are from 9:30am with the event starting at 10am.

Pennine Way 60th Anniversary Walking Challenge October 2, 2024

Join us to celebrate Pennine Way’s 60th anniversary with a walking challenge!

To celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Pennine Way, we are asking current or past members of Girlguiding to walk the 268-mile route in celebration. The route will be broken down into manageable sections so anyone who wants to take part can!

Our walking adviser will work with your group to allocate you a section of the Pennine Way which you will be responsible for covering on the day. As a group, this walk will be self-led and you will be responsible for your own meeting time, meeting location, consent forms and first aid. We will also be providing a general risk assessment for the event, which you may wish to adapt for your group depending on local factors.

No walking qualification is required to take part in this event. Whilst a walking qualification is required to cover the tougher terrain, if you do not have your walking qualification, we will be able to allocate your group to a section of the trail suitable for you.

To sign up, please complete the google form here.
