Effective Communication for leaders August 5, 2025

We are holding a series of sessions focusing on effective communication for leaders. 

This topic aims to encourage leaders to think about the bigger impact of communication – considering body language, tone, listening, and tone of voice in written communication too. This session will help empower you to determine which style of communication is the best tool/media for communicating for your circumstances, and introduce the concept of managing difficult conversations.

We are holding a session focusing on how to be inclusive for all of your members.

In this session, you’ll find out about inclusive decision-making and leadership, and how you can adapt activities and meetings so everyone can have a great guiding experience. You’ll also learn how you can support young members and volunteers and how to report discrimination.

Introduction to Managing Unit Accounts August 5, 2025

We are holding a session focusing on how to manage unit accounts.

This webinar will support you to understand your responsibilities in managing unit accounts. We’ll specifically look at the national accounts pack, but the principles and skills are transferable to all ways of recording accounts.

Refresh, Reset and Go – Residential November 4, 2025

Calling all leaders with a historic Going Away with (GAW) Residential Licence:

Are you a leader who would like a refresh on your GAW Licence so you can feel more confident?

Then book on to our new bespoke online training, which will help to refresh and reenergise your skills and help you understand the changes to the residential process, enabling you to have the confidence to take your unit members away on a guiding residential event!

This course will be held online via a Teams call and open to all leaders with a historic GAW licence.

This is an online session which will be held Wednesday 14 January 7:00 – 9:00pm

Walking Qualification Weekend July 9, 2025

Calling all adult leaders! Do you enjoy walking in beautiful countryside with others? Do you want to develop your own skills in navigation or managing groups of members? Do you want to gain a qualification in walking? Maybe you’ve completed DofE Gold or Queen’s Guide and would like to progress. If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of these then this is the weekend for you.

On offer

Level 1 and 2 Training, and Level 1 and 2 Assessment course. If you wish to attend for Level 2 Assessment you must already have attended a level 2 Training Weekend.

Training:

The training will cover the main topics of the practical and theoretical sessions of the walking scheme, including:

· Route planning

· Navigational techniques

· Group management

· Hazards and risk assessment

· Day, micro and low visibility navigation

The course will involve some physical activities and being out in all weather conditions.

For those attending the level 2 training there will be an introductory zoom meeting on Thursday 12th March 7pm.

Grants to support the cost of attending the course may be available from Region, County or Division.
