International Opportunities

Applications are now open for both leaders and participants to take part in our amazing 2023 international opportunities!

We have the following amazing trips planned:

3 Ranger trips (up to and including 18 at the time of travel)

  • Canadian summer camp - with the Girl Guides of Canada, and sight seeing around Toronto (10-12 days, around £2000, for young members aged 14-18 at the time of travel)
  • Madagascar - conservation trip with potential to work with endangered animals (14-16 days, around £2400, for young members aged 16-18 at the time of travel)
  • Japan - cultural trip sightseeing around Tokyo and Osaka/Kyoto (14-16 days, around £2200, for young members aged 14-18 at the time of travel)

*There will be 3 leaders and 12 participants per trip

International community experience

  • Starting a community project in the UK and completing this overseas in Europe - the location is chosen by the leaders (7-10 days, around £1000-£1200, for Guides aged 11 up to and including 14)

We also have a fantastic opportunity, just for our leaders who are part of Inspire (aged 18-30):

Inspire Italy interrailing (Book and go)

  • We are recruiting two 18-30 leaders as part of the leader selection and then it will be a book and go for other adult members aged 18-30 (9-10 days, around £1100-£1200)

And we haven't forgotten the Brownies:

Brownies in Belfast (Book and go)

  • We will be recruiting a planning team for this event to run a weekend event in Belfast, where unit leaders from across the region can book on and take their Brownies to Lorne, an adventure estate in Belfast, with a trip out into Belfast itself. This trip will enable Brownie leaders to gain their international licence whilst also attending a mass event. Price is tbc.

And finally:

Adventures in Lisbon (Book and go) for Guides, Rangers, Inspire and Trefoil Guild

  • We will be recruiting a planning team for this event, for a planned wide game in the city centre of Lisbon, followed by an evening event. Leaders from across the region can book on and take their units. Units organise their own travel, accommodation, food etc, but, as they are attending a planned event, this trip can also be used for leaders to gain their international licence. This event will be open to Guides and upwards.

Adult Applications

If you are up for an international adventure, taking girls away and creating memories that will last a lifetime, then we want to hear from you! Applications are now open for leaders to run the above trips! You do not need to be a Guide or Ranger leader - any adult member of Girlguiding in North West England is eligible to apply (aged 18 or over at the time of travel). You do not have to have experience of taking girls away, or the 'Travelling Abroad' module of the 'Going Away' scheme, but this is the perfect opportunity to work towards it. Requirements include A Safe Space and Travel Abroad training, but all leaders have plenty of time and will be supported in obtaining what is required to lead a trip. We are recruiting for our three Ranger trips, one Guide trip (three leaders for each), plus leaders to join our planning teams for the 3 'Book and Go' trips. To make these trips as accessible to as many as possible, all leaders successful in securing a place on a trip will be eligible for a region grant.

For all leaders wishing to apply, we will be holding an INTOPS (International Opportunities) selection day on 23 April 2022 at region HQ in Preston, where you can find out more information about the trips themselves and have the opportunity to meet other leaders applying, but with absolutely no pressure to go ahead with a trip. We will be holding our participant selection at Waddow Hall, 15-17 July, and it is expected that all selected leaders be able to attend this event, where possible, to help in selecting girls for your trips, so please save the date!

Please complete and return this application form to internationalteam@girlguidingnwe.org.uk to secure your place on the INTOPS day. Leader applications close 18 April 2022.

Young Member Applications

Are you a Guide or Ranger looking for an international adventure? Then look no further! Applications are now open for the above trips!

Girls will have the benefit of three leaders taking their group away, a number of meet ups before travelling so they can get to know their team, and plenty of support with fundraising. To make these events as accessible to as many as possible, all participants successful in securing a place on a trip will be eligible to apply for a region grant.

As much as we would love to, we unfortunately do not have enough places to be able to offer an international trip to everyone. Selected applicants will initially be invited to an INTOPS (International Opportunities) event which applicants will need to be able to attend. Rangers will be invited to a weekend (15-17 July 2022) camping at Waddow, and Guide applicants will be invited for just Saturday 16 July, so please save these dates. At this event, you will find out more information about the trips themselves and meet other girls applying, but with absolutely no pressure to join a trip. Successful applicants will be offered their places shortly after this weekend.

To apply for your place at our INTOPS event, please complete and return this application form to internationalteam@girlguidingnwe.org.uk. This form will need to be signed by parents for any applicants under the age of 18.

Participant applications close 31 May 2022. We aim to respond to all participants to let them know the outcome of their application by 14 June.
