Ash Boden applied in 2022 to be a leader on one of our first set of trips after COVID and she was selected to lead our Japan trip which was all about immersing our Girlguiding members into Japanese culture both modern and historic.
The Japan trip was jam packed of exciting activities and trips where they visited Mount Fuji, Tokyo Disneyland, Hiroshima, Osaka and Kyoto! All in just two weeks.
Our members even got to spend the day with a unit from Girl Scouts Japan in Chiba.
Below is what our lead Ash had to say about her experience as a leader and her trip:
“Having just spent 2 weeks in Japan with 16 Rangers, I could not recommend leading an international more! I started with ZERO international experience in Guiding, I was given a country and told to run with it! Not only did I get an incredible 2 week experience with Rangers in Japan getting to witness them make memories, grow and young people and experience the exciting culture for the first time, but I also gained a range of skills from planning and organisation to confidence and teamwork.
To anyone thinking of running an international, small or large scale, I say DO IT! There is no better feeling than seeing the excitement on the kids faces when they try a new food, make a new friend or overcome a fear they never thought they would. Planning Japan 2023 has become one of my biggest accomplishments and will be one of my most memorable adventures for the rest of my life.”
