Where your region subscription goes

In 2027, the Girlguiding North West England (region) levy is £15.00 per young member. As with previous years, other levels in Girlguiding (district, division, county and national) may also have levies.

What is the region levy?

The region levy enables us to continue delivering high‑quality support, training, events, and resources for volunteers and young members across the North West.

Our region activity is not only funded by the subscriptions. We also generate income through our shop and meeting room hire, and by securing external funding. The information below outlines what we do with your contribution.

Other sources of region funding

There are some aspects of our work that are not funded by the subscriptions levy. To deliver these areas of our work we have accessed other sources of income. This currently includes:

Inclusive & Impactful – Welcoming and thanking everyone

Together volunteers and staff are growing our membership, welcoming members and ensuring everyone feels valued and recognised for their contribution.

  • Delivering membership growth projects
  • Ensuring our new volunteers receive a warm welcome
  • Thanking and recognising our volunteers

Sustainable & Efficient – Best use of resources whilst protecting the environment

Together volunteers and staff are working hard to be sustainable and efficient through:

  • Income generation initiatives outside of membership fees
  • Region shop
  • Meeting room hire
  • Fundraising and grants
  • Eco‑friendly and sustainable initiatives

Recent changes to the levy

In 2027, the Girlguiding North West England (region) levy is £15.00 per young member. This is an increase of around 30% from 2026’s region levy and is due to the removal adult membership subscriptions.

Starting in the 2027 annual subscriptions process, there will no longer be a subscription fee for adult volunteers – a change which aims to remove financial barriers to volunteering. Moving forward, annual invoices will be calculated solely based on the number of young members. Because adult fees are being eliminated, the per-member cost allocated to young members will increase to ensure overall income for local and national guiding remains the same.

If you think of it as a unit invoice then hopefully the total invoice is not too impactful compared to 2026 invoice total.

Help is available

Girlguiding has provided unit leaders with an Microsoft Excel-based budgeting tool to help units forecast their upcoming invoices.

If your unit are going to struggle to pay for the levy invoice then there is financial support available at most levels of Girlguiding, please discuss any support you need with your district, division, county or region. You can also get help through registering to Claim Gift Aid or through Easyfundraising.

And finally…

Across all of this work, we deeply value the commitment, time, and energy that volunteers and staff contribute together at a region level. It is this partnership — practical, passionate, and rooted in our shared purpose — that keeps Girlguiding North West England thriving.

The region levy supports the infrastructure, opportunities, and services that make this collaboration possible, but it is the people who make the impact. Every volunteer and every staff member plays a vital role in keeping guiding strong, sustainable, and inspiring for girls across the North West.
